Holiday magic in every day: wizard or event manager?
Date
When people talk about the world of event management, they usually immediately think of lavish events, where guests in chic outfits dance under an incredible starry sky, while champagne pours like a river from roaring fountains.
And the event managers themselves are imagined as magicians, able to turn all, even the most incredible dreams into reality, and the issue of organizing events can be solved with just a click of the fingers.
Well, let’s find out what actually happens behind the scenes of this action.
The real essence of work.
So, welcome to the exciting world of event management, where every step comes with a ton of paperwork and spreadsheets, loads of stress and an abyss of caffeine.
It all starts with the general idea of the event – it’s like a seed that needs to be planted and grows into a giant tree of planning, budgets and to-do lists. After the idea is born, the real hell of the organization begins: finding a location (is the whole universe already booked? and next week?), coordinating with suppliers (no, we absolutely cannot do without a ton of LEDs and pink limousines), and also the endless struggle with bureaucratic monsters (those damn bills-invoices-calculations!).
During the organization of events, the event manager faces the most unexpected obstacles. It seems that now everything is going just fine, and then suddenly it turns out that the carriage has turned into a pumpkin, the location is flooded or the DJ did not come because he forgot that he has an event today. Yes, even such situations arise. No one canceled acts of God. Never.
To survive in this crazy world, an event manager needs to have superpowers. They must be masters in organization and planning and at the same time diplomats in negotiations with management, contractors and event participants, real ninjas in solving problems and wizards in time management.
In addition, it is necessary to have super-strong nerves of steel so as not to go crazy when things go wrong, as well as an endless sense of humor to be able to successfully outwit and resolve any situation.
All the truth as it is. First-hand information.
We conducted a quick blitz survey with our real magician and prankster, the sparkle and just a very bright and mega-positive girl – event manager Anastasia Koshova.
It is she who turns all our dreams about various events into reality, creates unforgettable memories of events in the company and comes up with something new and interesting every time.
– Tell us a little about yourself: your preferences and hobbies. Is there something that struck you when you moved into the IT field?
“I have many different hobbies: painting, sewing, music, sports and dancing. I always like to try something new. Speroteck is the first IT company I work for. I was very impressed by the care for each of the employees and the really friendly team.”
– What skills do you think a real event manager in an IT company should have?
“Of course, it is important to maximize stress resistance, have a mega positive attitude towards the world as a whole, as well as love and sensitivity to all people.”
– What difficulties arise mostly when organizing events, and how do you cope with them?
“We are all very different, with different preferences and tastes. But we try to plan our events in such a way as to take this factor into account. And yet, it is extremely difficult to make it so that everyone really likes it.”
– What do you like most about your job?
“At work, I like all the variety of tasks, there is absolutely no boring routine work here. I am really looking forward to the end of the war and I dream of meeting at a huge corporate party with all my colleagues, especially those who are currently working remotely, and have a magical feast with a large friendly team.”
– If you had the opportunity to host absolutely any event with an unlimited budget, anywhere in the world, what event would you host and where exactly?
“I would organize a huge quest around the Crimea. I haven’t had the opportunity to visit there yet, but I know that the nature there is impressive and, of course, the sea is incredible and gentle. I would like to organize an unforgettable vacation for the entire company right there.”
– What event would you choose as a tradition for each year to inspire colleagues?
“I would definitely choose picnics in nature. Autumn and summer – each season has its own vibe. Nature helps us all to get rid of today’s stress and restore our own body resources. It is calm, quiet gatherings with a fire behind warm conversations, funny jokes – this keeps us all together as a team.”
– And what inspires you? What gives strength and motivation at work?
“I am extremely inspired when employees really feel good at an event. When they are satisfied with everything, relaxed and resting. The general mood and atmosphere in the team always improves, there are more jokes and smiles in the offices, and of course, interesting moments from events are remembered for a long time.”
Myths and reality.
But even wizards are sometimes credited with mythical abilities that are actually very far from reality.
For instance, the myth that event managers can read minds and always know the guests’ wishes. Unfortunately, event managers are not telepaths, but they do have (you won’t believe it!) Google and well-developed observational and analytical skills!
And everyone believes that event managers constantly spend time at holidays and parties, having fun, dancing and drinking champagne. And not everything is so fabulous here, in fact they work there, not rest!
In conclusion, we can say that being an event manager is like being the captain of a ship in a storm, because someone has to coolly and confidently steer this ship in the whole crazy circle of stormy events, unforgettable impressions and impressive emotions.
